A group of terrorists led by Kiryū Shitamuki had the ideology of wanting to live on the natural world below, since they believed it would be of greater benefit to them due to their inability to fly. This is because the group’s race had wings not designed for flying and they planned to shut down the cities’ main power supply during the Festival of Kūki, knowing full well it would either kill or severely injure the inhabitants from crashing down into the ground below. The matter was brought to King Tatsumaki Kūkiryoku's attention by his lead advisor Iki Sawayakana, who suggested they should infiltrate the terrorists' base to foil their plans. King Tatsumaki agreed and sent out a distress signal to enlist the aid of nearby travellers who would be willing to become a spy for them, he also enlisted the aid of his Gate Guardians to assist in the travellers’ espionage mission and generously added the reward of being able to ride on their prized airship for free around the planet.
Aérans are able to use an ability called ‘Touchdown’, which enables them to land on the ground temporarily and walk.
